Contacting Registrants

We are frequently contacted by people seeking to contact domain Registrants. If you are one of these people, please understand that we are a Registrar and not a Registrant.

What is the difference?

The difference is quite simple. Registrars are companies utilized by people, organizations, etc. to register and manage their domain names. Registrants are the entities who have registered a domain name through the Registrar.

For example, let's assume that you registered a domain name through our company. In that example, you would be the Registrant and we would be the Registrar.

Why do I see NameSilo listed in WHOIS?

Registrars are frequently listed in WHOIS output. However, you will also find Registrant information in WHOIS.

How do I contact the Registrant for a domain?

We are frequently asked by people if a domain name is for sale, or if we can put them in touch with a Registrant. The only way to contact a Registrant is via the information found in WHOIS. You can perform a WHOIS lookup on our site, a different registrar's site, or one of the many WHOIS services available online.

Private Domains

Many domains registered with us use our completely free WHOIS privacy service. If the domain you are interested in uses WHOIS privacy, then there will be instructions in WHOIS for contacting the Registrant.

The Registrant has not replied to me

It is entirely up to the Registrant if they want to respond to you or not. We cannot compel them to do so.
