ONG Zoé is providing life-changing healthcare to the Amazon’s Rainforest guardians, caring for those who care for the forest. In this Q&A we hear from their Marketing and Fundraising Lead, Andréia Laplana, about the organization’s mission, goals, and how they are reaching communities in need by utilizing their online presence.

As a non-profit that works in many remote areas, what are the main challenges you must overcome to build a sense of community?

Our commitment to the communities we serve is deeply rooted in collaboration and engagement. Beyond working directly with local leaders and community members, our volunteers, donors, and partners are essential to fostering this sense of unity. We empower local healthcare workers and create strong networks of support that include not only the people in the Amazon but also those who contribute from afar. Transparency with all stakeholders—whether local communities, volunteers, or donors—is key to maintaining this bond and fostering long-term trust.

Transparency is one of ONG Zoé’s core values. How should non-profits like your organization use transparency to connect and build trust in the communities they serve?

Transparency is the foundation of trust, not just within the communities we serve in the Amazon but also with our volunteers, donors, and partners. At ONG Zoé, we practice transparency by sharing regular updates on how donations are used, the outcomes of our expeditions, and the impact of our initiatives. We ensure that our donors and volunteers feel a direct connection to the work being done on the ground, which strengthens their sense of belonging and contribution. Whether through reports, data, or direct communication, we keep all stakeholders informed about how their contributions are making a difference. This level of openness reinforces our relationships with the communities we serve and those who support our mission.

How do you use data to reach your target audiences, and why is data important for all nonprofits to understand in order to have maximum impact?

At ONG Zoé, we have a fully integrated system using Airtable, which allows us to manage all aspects of our operations in real-time. From volunteer coordination to expedition logistics and donor engagement, our use of Airtable ensures that data is always up-to-date and accessible. This technology helps us streamline our processes and make informed decisions, allowing us to allocate resources efficiently and maximize impact. For nonprofits, leveraging data is essential to demonstrate transparency, track progress, and maintain accountability. By using a system like Airtable, we ensure that everyone involved—volunteers, donors, and community members—are aligned and informed, fostering trust and enhancing our ability to achieve meaningful results.

When your organization was setting up your online presence, why did you select a .ORG domain name?

Choosing a .ORG domain was a deliberate decision to align with the trust and credibility that the extension brings. The .ORG domain is known for its association with nonprofits and social impact, and we wanted to immediately signal our mission and values to both donors and communities. It helped us build an online presence that reflects our commitment to transparency and accountability.

The .ORG Community is an international one, how is being a part of this community valuable as you work to expand your organizations presence into new areas?

The credibility of the .ORG extension helps us attract new partners, volunteers, and donors, enabling us to grow our impact. Our sense of community extends far beyond the rainforest—our volunteers, donors, and partners share a unified mission to protect the Amazon and its people. This international support network is invaluable as it provides resources, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration opportunities, all of which are critical to our success. As we expand, the .ORG Community continues to enhance our visibility and ability to build sustainable partnerships.
