Automating Domain Reselling via the NameSilo WHMCS Module

The NameSilo WHMCS module lets you automate domain registration, transfers, renewals, and client DNS management inside WHMCS. Connect your NameSilo API key, and orders provision in real time through the API, while WHMCS's built-in domain sync keeps expiry and due dates aligned with NameSilo without a separate cron job. Pricing follows NameSilo's Discount Program.
What Is the WHMCS Registrar Module?
NameSilo publishes its own registrar module for WHMCS 7.x and 8.x, downloadable from its GitHub repository rather than bundled with WHMCS. It connects WHMCS to NameSilo's API so registrations, transfers, renewals, EPP codes, DNS changes, and domain updates process in real time. It supports WHMCS's built-in domain and transfer sync. NameSilo's reseller program covers domains, so you resell domains here, not hosting plans.
Why It Matters: Margin Without Reseller Fees
NameSilo does not offer separate reseller-only pricing. Resellers use NameSilo's published domain pricing, while the Discount Program can reduce eligible registration, renewal, and transfer costs as the number of active domains in the account grows. Registration and renewal prices vary by TLD, and renewal prices may be higher than registration prices, particularly when a low introductory or promotional registration price applies. Add-ons such as WHOIS Privacy, where supported, and DNS management are included at no additional cost. Using an example resale price of $15.00 for .com:
Active domains | .com cost | Margin at $15.00 |
0 to 99 | $11.05 | $3.95 |
100+ | $8.75 | $6.25 |
1,000+ | $8.25 | $6.75 |
5,000+ | $7.75 | $7.25 |
Pricing note: The NameSilo prices referenced in this article were current as of October 22, 2026. Domain registration, renewal, promotional, and Discount Program pricing may change over time. Always check NameSilo’s current pricing before calculating reseller margins.
By comparison, Enom charges a one-time $50 reseller sign-up fee, per 2026 comparison guides. NameSilo's reseller program and API are free.
Installation & Authentication
- Create a NameSilo account and accept the reseller terms. Add Account Funds, which Discount Program pricing requires.
- In API Manager, generate an API key. It's displayed only once, so store it safely. You can also restrict access to up to five server IP addresses.
- Download the module from NameSilo's official repository at github.com/namesilo/whmcs and upload the namesilo folder to your WHMCS modules/registrars directory.
- In WHMCS, go to Setup, Domain Registrars, select NameSilo, and enter your live API key. It's the only required field.
- Optionally, set NameSilo as the default lookup provider for premium domain pricing.
Configuring Automated Domain Sync
The module implements WHMCS's native domain sync and transfer sync functions, so you don't need a separate NameSilo cron job. In WHMCS, open Automation Settings under System Settings and enable Domain Sync, plus Sync Next Due Date if billing dates should follow expiry dates. WHMCS's own cron then checks domains against NameSilo in rolling batches of 50 per run, updating expiry dates and status, and completing pending transfers. The module treats domains in NameSilo's grace and restore periods as still active, so late renewal payments can still process.
The standalone namesilo-domain-sync.php is an alternative, but use one method, not both. For prices, WHMCS's Registrar TLD Sync utility (7.10 or later) pulls NameSilo's TLD prices in one click.
Common Pitfalls
IP restrictions: If you limit your API key to specific IPs and your WHMCS server gets a new address, API calls fail until you update the list in API Manager.
A lost API key: Keys can't be retrieved. Generate a new one and update WHMCS.
Low Account Funds: Discount pricing applies only to Account Funds payments, so keep the balance funded.
Limited private labeling: WHOIS has been sunset and RDAP doesn't allow extra text, so reseller branding can't be added to registration lookups, and NameSilo appears as the registrar of record. Registrar contact verification, however, supports a generic email for resellers.
What This Means for You
Join through the Reseller Program, use the API Reference for custom workflows, and enroll in the Discount Program so growth moves your costs down the tiers.
