Setting Up Sub-Domain Forwarding
If you’ve already set up domain forwarding for your primary domain using the steps outlined above, the process for sub-domains remains consistent through Step 4. To begin sub-domain forwarding:
Repetition of Steps 1-4: Initiating Forwarding Setup for Sub-Domains
- Follow the initial steps of logging in to your NameSilo account, opening the Domain Manager, selecting the desired domain, and initiating the forwarding setup by clicking on ‘Forward Domains’ from the actions panel. This will lead you to the domain forwarding configuration settings.
Step 5: Sub-Domain Forwarding Tab
- Navigate to the ‘Sub-Domain Forwarding’ tab to specifically handle sub-domains.

Step 6: Add a Forward for the Sub-Domain
- Click ‘Add a New Forward’ and input the sub-domain for which you’re setting up forwarding.

Step 7: Configure Sub-Domain Forwarding
- Similar to the primary domain, choose ‘HTTP’ as the forwarding type, enter the destination address, and select the forwarding type (Permanent, Temporary, or Cloaked Forward).

Step 8: Enable Path Forwarding (Optional)

Step 9: Submission
- Click ‘Submit’ to save your sub-domain forwarding settings.
Removing Forwarding
Domain forwarding is automatically removed when making certain changes, such as altering name servers, DNS records, or parking the domain. Keep in mind that the removal process may take some time, and the domain’s functionality will be redirected based on the new changes.
Additional Considerations
- Using our domain forwarding service will automatically set the name servers for the domains above to our name servers (if they are not already). This will result in any third-party hosting services (such as website hosting and email hosting) ceasing to function.
- Our system will also automatically update the root domain and the “www” version of the domain to use the necessary DNS records for forwarding to work.
- You can enter “%%DOMAIN%%” in the Forwarding Address field. Anywhere “%%DOMAIN%%” appears will be automatically replaced with the domain name(s) you are forwarding.
Tips
Propagation Time: DNS changes take some time to propagate across the internet. Be patient, and revisit the forwarded domain after a while to verify proper functioning.
Testing on Multiple Devices: Check the forwarding on various devices and browsers to ensure a consistent experience for all visitors.
With these step-by-step instructions, you can seamlessly navigate NameSilo’s platform to set up domain and sub-domain forwarding. Whether consolidating your online presence or optimizing for specific projects, these features enhance accessibility and user experience. Remember that changes may take a short while to propagate, so test the forwarding after a brief period to ensure smooth functionality.
